Our Bibliophobic Brethren

While I haven't been an active blogger of late, it does not mean I do not get affected by what's happening around me.It is just that when it comes to attack on freedom of speech, it gets me started like nothing else.

As if we were not enough hypocrites already, overly touchy is what could also easily define us Indians. Our selective outrage and an erosion of free speech,is another side to our reality.
While unabashedly, the Old and sloppy India brought shame to the new ,vibrant and progressive India, here comes another chapter with disdain for free speech. This incident fuels the ugly notion of self-censorship being practiced so shamelessly in India nowdays.
As an educated person, what hits me hard is the snatching away of the rights of the hapless students to participate in a beautiful journey called Literature.
All this because another off-the-block young Turk was to be inducted into dynastic politics.
This political party is like the stray Simian, which can bite rather harmfully; but then again could come around to be worshiped as the monkey God.
Using threat and intimidation is their old history which comes in handy whenever they need it. After all, civilized netizens and the so-called educated citizens do not want to invite the wrath of the Simian, lest they be gobbled up in the line of Ire!
Ironical as it may sound, the very people elected to guard the echelons of the Education, let it down rather so submissively and meekly.
What is endearing and brings forth some hope is the collective derision of this sordid act by the other half of the educated elite in India.
However, when Educational institutions start providing deluxe service via express delivery to selfish political ambitions, all hopes of academic independence and freedom of expression stand crashed to dust.We have had many such incidents in India where books are banned to cater to the whims and fancies of the highest echelons of power. When people have a not so clear past, the need to ban the disclosure arises.

Why not be honest and pure all the while being politically correct and dispense all need to do away with uncomfortable disclosures. Food for thought.
