Only yesterday I read this piece of news sprawled across all the major dailies.."Rich Arab Sheikh marries a Minor only to desert her within a week of the so-called marriage"..
Who is this man and who bestowed on him the right to deprive the girl of her dreams? It is no-one but the very people who brought her into this world. Why so?..One would dare ask...The answer is simple..they have no food , and no money to buy it either ! Besides they argue that their relogion allows for polygamy ! But why a child bethrothed to a dying man ! Presumably they were led to believe that she would be treated as a queen i her own right !
Alas this marriage has not been the first, and neither this will be the last...someone somewhere dares to blow the whistle and then a huge hue and cry is made out of the issue...the end result will always be the same. The sheikh will go scot-free and the poor hapless girl will be eventually forced into the shackles of prostitution !

All this has left me wondering whether India Shining was really a fad after all !
When some of us were proudly proclaiming to the world that Our India was shining and that we had grown by leaps and bounds, somewhhere along the dingy by-lanes of poverty a mother was selling her newborn baby all for a paltry sum of Rs 40 ! Poverty was the demon as always...!

This was the hard-hitting facts about the real India and the vaning Shine. Why can we not do something to bridge this economic divide. Why the rich are becoming richer while the poor are going from bad to worse.Oh damn these shackles of life...
Then there is this news about a women having murdered her husband and then slowly having eaten all his dead body .When the police close in on her finally there she is caught red-handed boiling the last of the body part of what was once her beloved husband. There she was boiling his head in a Pressure Cooker...! How cruel we have become ? Where are all the emotions and civilized attitudes that biologically classifies us as Human Beings? This incident only proves that deep down there is an animal instinct in us simply bidding its time and waiting to be unleashed ! Nothing can be worse than this...

hmm... Now that its all past, India Shining may just have been a fad. The problems though, are rather eternal and universal - not solely India's.

The question really is, what can be done? Or (maybe) more importantly - SHOULD anything be done.

I remember a quote (cant recall who said it): "We are what we are, because they are what they are". Lots of depth in it...
