Luxury ,Ambani,and My India

A recent news about some major International brands trying to foray into the Indian retail market gives me the jitters to say the least.

Witness this from an Indian site rediff.com : "The booming stock market and the recent news that India's leading industrialist, Mukesh Ambani, had even overtaken Bill Gates, to become the richest person in the world, is an indication that the country was ready for that ultimate 'haute couture' experience, Vivek Kaul, Retail and Leisure Advisory of Jones Lang LaSalle retail advisory service, told PTI."

Is this the reality of our India? We have one Ambani who is the richest in the world, but we also have millions of Indians who are also living below the Poverty line, implying they are the poorest in the world !

It is really pathetic, that one man's richness has shifted the focus from the real India.
The growing economic gap in the Country should be a concern, instead we are focusing our efforts on making the rich more richer !

What we need to worry about is why are our farmers committing suicide when we are primarily an agricultural country?
Why are the grains rotting in FCI's godowns, when we have millions going hungry to bed everyday?
Why do we have a president who is nothing more than a showpiece speaking about women empowerment, when our women are gang raped even while going on pilgrimages?
Why can't we become more responsible as a society? Why are we living in a hypothetical development bubble!

All the development in India is riding piggy back on the forlorn masses. In our race for achieving the shine, we are leaving the masses behind. It is a vicious circle, where poverty grows like a spiral, and riches grow exponentially.

Ambani's money will not contribute to empowering the poor.
Luxury brands coming to India will not be available for the masses, but for the select few and the upwardly mobile elite. They do not have anything to do with India anyway, because they will milk it's resources to fill their coffers.

Window shopping, Luxury Brands, are not a hobby for a person who has nothing to fill his stomach with, after a hard day at work !

The day we can empower these people, and contribute to their rise from poverty, that day will be a truly luxurious day for India.

reality is- not all can become rich enough over day/month/year. it will take decade and may be a generation. we are on the way and we can and will make it.

also money was never problem but attitude to solve (/delivery channel or systems).
