The recent attack in a Mangalore pub, has left many traumatized, bruised, battered and scarred on the soul.
Am I glad I escaped India in the 21st century? Definitely no doubts on that, after seeing the current sorry state of affairs prevailing in India.
The morality from morons is becoming only too rampant, while hijacking an individual's freedom only in the name of religion and culture.
We do not have the right to speak about culture when we have ourself reduced it to a mere joke about clothes and alcohol!
Culture is more than what we see a person wearing. It's in our roots, it is in our heritage.
It is in the way we conduct ourself, in the way we believe in humanity and compassion more than elsewhere.
The seeds of intolerance among our society are a shock in the 21st century!
We are only faking our growth and our steps forward into the global world order could be just an eyewash.
We are a civilized society, and such acts only push the image of our country further into the past and only seeks to affirm the fact that we will never be anything more than the third world.
Does it also mean that deep down we will always be the same "Treacherous and Hypocrite Indians"
Our men have been using and abusing women as prostitutes, wives, daughters and selling them off as commodities. They have been doing this for centuries in the name of culture !
Our deep rooted gender bias, our patriarchal society, and utter disrespect of our women is all out there in our genetic makeup just as the Colonial Chromosome in the White Man of the West.
So, when the Indian woman of the 21st century was ready to re-write the rules, it was bound to create a furore!
If our men can make our women serve alcohol to them in brothels, what is the shame in sitting and drinking with them as equals?
If Prostitution,Domestic violence,Dowry,Corruption,Killing a girl child can be a part of our culture, why not pubs?
Think about it.
