Gone are the days when I used to look forward to reaching office, greeting fellow employees, and chatting up with friends in the office.
Once a manager had told me that "There are no Friends,or anything Personal in office".
However that still did not deter me from forming bonds and relationships which I will cherish forever.
A recent visit to my Doctor here in a foreign land, only confirmed that Indian people are definitely on the high list of hospitality and friendliness.
To quote him " I met very nice and warm people in India".It was but natural for me to assume that the non-indians here would be alike. The falseness did come as a Rude shock though.
Where majority in India is friendly, it is the minority here.No offence intended, the most plausible reason why a non-English speaker would like to cosy up to you was just so that he could improve on his/her English.
After spending an year here, I have hardly been able to find any friends per se.
People in office can be only and only colleagues, hold perfectly true here, more-so if you don't speak the same language.
After having spent 9 years in the industry forging some very special bonds and relationships in the professional spectrum,it is A World Apart here in the world's most romantic territory.

Thanks for your honesty in sharing. Looks like writing will open up a world of friends to you.
JNET :)
i think its very subjective and based on self.. with my crazy interest in diversity, culture and travel- i experience relocation every 12-18months and start life with zero contacts in stranger(often in non-english) land. then again i manage to find some hand for social support(/for example in athens: i google for expat group and i found meet in athens. for past year some of those folks had become good friends and important part of my social life here. ofcourse none of them are indian but not indian but not many local too, which gives common objective 'surviving in foreign land with no friends'.
be open...and willing to throw yourself in stranger crowd, you will be surprised with people from different nationality/culture/.. share common interest and good company to be with.
then again-- web world (blogs/videos,books, documentaries,.. can also fill your time too.
