Gandhi,My Father

From quite an early age in a desperate attempt to keep the children grounded to the harsh reality and not to start building castles in the air, my father too tried to speak to me and my siblings about Gandhi. However it was not enough to get me hooked to the Mahatma in the way that I am, now.

My Father always referenced "Simple Living and High Thinking".
I personally could never get a hang of what that meant, for the simple reason that, it was just spoken about and not taught.Perhaps my father wanted me to learn about it my own way.During the course of this journey through life, I tried unsuccessfully to weave Gandhi in my own life, however, the depth of his statement has been realised only now.

Gandhi was a visionary.
We as the new age indians really need to imbibe his teachings into our lifestyle if we want to retain our sanity in this "world gone wild" in its eternal quest for globalization.

Money power, muscle power etc are not the ulterior goals in life.At the end of the day, one needs to come home to a peace,a quiet and a contented soul.
Today as I rediscover Gandhi in my own amateur way,I salute my Father for not trying to force the Mahatma on me.In letting me discover him on my own, he has helped me in becoming richer in thoughts and an improved my mental process.

Gandhi has been a great inspiration to me as well, just as my father has been: living a simple life, giving more than taking. But it is only now that I realize how challenging it is to actually practice that way of living and I admire the Mahatma and my Dad all the more for being that way. It makes me laugh at people who call Gandhi a coward and a weakling. I surely consider him the strongest and bravest that man can be. Who else could have inspired hundreds of millions to fight as one?!

BTW, I am a frequent visitor to your blog and really enjoy your postings. I saw some of your pics and I think I know you personally from college. Does my name ring any bells?
